Elder Mindy Shaffer has lived in the Rochester area all her life, growing up in the suburb of Greece and attending Aldersgate Methodist Church. In her youth she was active in youth group, did volunteer work with the Red Cross and at Strong Memorial Hospital and spent most summer weekends with her family at her grandparent’s cottage on Conesus Lake where she became an “expert” slalom water skier! After college and for most of her career she worked in food service—except for a few years at a flower shop. Life took a wonderful turn when she had two children and was able to be a stay-at-home mom for a few years. Upon “retirement” in 2022 she volunteered with Rochester Animal Services, tutored an ESL student from Ukraine, and helped with Trinity Emanuel’s Saturday Breakfast Café. After an inspirational trip to Palestine with the Mosaic of Peace in 2018, she joined Rochester Witness for Palestine a local activist group that endeavors to educate the Rochester community about the ongoing Nakba or catastrophe in Palestine. She has been a member of the Presbytery of Genesee Valley for 27 years. Her home church is Penfield Presbyterian Church where she is an elder at large and sings in the choir.
The moderator-elect of the Presbytery shall ordinarily be elected and installed at the July meeting and assume the position immediately upon installation for a term of approximately two years, one as moderator-elect and one as moderator. The moderator-elect shall preside over the meeting of presbytery at the request of, or in the absence of, the moderator. If the office of moderator becomes vacant, the moderator-elect shall fill the unexpired term. If the moderator-elect is unable to serve, the most recent available moderator shall serve. The moderator-elect shall be a member of the Big Picture Team, and with members of the team, coordinate worship for the Presbytery meeting. In addition, for each meeting the moderator-elect will appoint tellers to serve, including serving as the New Business Committee, when needed.
