About Presbytery of Genesee Valley (PGV)
The Presbytery of Genesee Valley is in the Finger Lakes region of New York State. Its 52 churches are in rural, suburban, and urban areas near Rochester, NY. The Presbytery has no brick-and-mortar office, yet we are steadfast in our commitment to connection and caring for our leaders, churches, and the communities they serve. The Stated Clerk is vital to achieving our goals of encouraging and empowering healthy, vital, and sustainable congregations and leaders, especially as we evolve to meet the challenges of the times. The Stated Clerk finds joy in the details, as well as in listening, learning, and equipping others for their roles and responsibilities. The role is unique and important to the well-being of the whole church.
About the Position
Title: Stated Clerk for the Presbytery of Genesee Valley (PGV)
Part-time hourly exempt position. Officer of the Presbytery, elected for a three-year term (renewable).
Hours: Average time commitment of 15 hours per week. May vary.
Location: Most of the work will be performed remotely. Requires use of a remote office with high-speed internet and includes occasional travel for on-site work and/or required events.
Overview of Responsibilities

- Serve as the ecclesiastical officer of the Presbytery under the provisions of the Book of Order; serving as parliamentarian of Presbytery, the interpreter of the Constitution of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and the official correspondent of the Presbytery
- Create, maintain, manage, and preserve all official rolls, correspondence, and records of PGV
- Advise Presbytery members, commissioners, churches, clerks of session, ruling elders, committees, commissions, and teams, on polity, procedure, and ecclesiastical law
- Serve as secretary, scribe, parliamentarian, and journal clerk for PGV entities
- Provide orientation, training, and guidance regarding parliamentary procedure, reporting requirements, and judicial processes
- Generate well-written accurate documentation in a timely manner
- Participate in General Assembly and Synod events as appropriate to the position, including Mid-Council Leader Orientation
Qualifications:
- Teaching Elder or Ruling Elder in good standing in the Presbyterian Church (USA)
- Seeks to follow Jesus in personal and professional life
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in administration, preferably with a church organization
- Understanding and deep working knowledge of Presbyterian Polity, the Book of Order, and Roberts Rules
- Demonstrated proficiency in the use of office technology, data storage, and communication tools including Google Business Suite, database software, Cloud storage, conferencing software (such as Zoom), and messaging apps
- Demonstrated capacity to work independently and effectively. Manages multiple tasks and time efficiently to produce high-quality output and meet timelines
- Proven excellence in listening and written communication skills
- Demonstrated commitment to professionalism, maintaining confidentiality, and managing sensitive information with excellent judgment and compliance with all stated guidelines
- Strong interpersonal communication, writing, and presentation skills

Compensation
- Salary range: $25-$35 per hour dependent upon skills and experience
- Stipend toward cost of remote office
- Appropriate systems equipment provided
- Membership fee for Association of Stated Clerks (PCUSA)
- Expenses accrued for travel required by the position reimbursed according to Presbytery policies
