As we head into the final weeks of New York State budget negotiations, it’s more important than ever that our NYS Senators and Assemblymembers hear from us. Do your part by letting them know that you want increased investments in high quality early care and education for our children. Send a message to your representatives right now saying “Thanks” to those who have already signed on in support of child care and to urge all of them to stand up for kids and working families during this budget session by advocating for:
- Rejection of the Executive Budget proposal to transfer $27M in Title XX funding from current critical local services to child care, pitting necessary programs against each other on the local level. Keep both programs whole to ensure current children and families do not lose services.
- Investment of $100M in subsidies.
- Creation of an early childhood learning fund with a dedicated revenue stream to serve significantly more children who are eligible but going unserved because of lack of funding. NYS currently only services about 17% of those who are eligible.
- Implementation of the new federal Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG) regulations without passing costs onto providers.
Budget decisions will be made in the next few weeks, so please take action today! Thank you.
