Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Psalm 119:105

November 1, 2016

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ;

As we begin a new season of serving God at People’s Ministry in Christ, we wanted to extend our sincere appreciation to you for your faithful support. By partnering with us, we have had the privilege of serving the people in the Dewey-Emerson neighborhood.

During this time of transition, a team of people, with a heart for this neighborhood and the city have been meeting to discern God’s will and direction. We are excited about what God is showing us!  Presently, we are continuing: Bible Study, prayer, neighborhood prayer walks, training in preparation for Celebrate Recovery, and outreach to Edgerton Square.

After the building renovation is complete and God clarifies other ministries, People’s Ministry in Christ will be “REBIRTHED!” (Probably spring!) We will keep you informed as we move forward and would invite individuals and churches to stay connected in any way God is leading.

As of November 15, 2016, Parkminster Church, 2710 Chili Ave, 14624 has agreed to act as financial administrator until PMIC reaches Not for Profit Status. Any donations should be made out to Parkminster Church with PMIC on the memo line.

We covet your prayers, are thankful for all of the donations (clothing, household items, hygiene products, Bibles) and most importantly, the time you gave sharing the love of Jesus with our neighbors.

“May the grace of Our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.”

People’s Ministry in Christ

People’s Ministry in Christ (PMIC) is a worshipping community located at 516 Dewey Avenue in the city of Rochester. In 2015, it was determined that a Presbytery ministry team be assembled for the following purpose: “to discern and determine the future direction of People’s Ministry in Christ.”

On July 17, 2016 the following recommendations of the Ministry team, as approved by Council, were voted and passed by Presbytery:

  • Dissolve the administrative relationship between People’s Ministry in Christ (PMIC) effective October 31, 2016.

The Presbytery of Genesee Valley will no longer be responsible for financial records or paying bills beyond this date. To ensure a smooth transition, Cheryl Battaglia (PGV Financial Administrator) will be available to PMIC for consultation.

NOTE: Funds must be released to an active 501(c)(3).

  • Authorize the Mission & Advocacy Committee to extend the contract of mission co-worker the Rev. Tedd Pullano through December 31, 2016. Tedd’s leadership and presence at PMIC is significant, and this action will create stability for them in this time of transition.

NOTE: The Mission Co-worker, in consultation with PMIC leadership, concluded his service to PMIC on August 31, 2016.

  • Release the funds from line item 3109 (currently $18,223.17) to PMIC once the 2016 books have been closed and all financial matters have been settled (approximately mid-February 2017).
  • Continue to encourage financial partnerships between the presbytery’s congregations and PMIC. Currently, those congregations include Dewey Avenue, Pittsford First, and Webster.
  • Provide, through the Mission & Advocacy Committee, financial support to PMIC beyond December 31, 2016 (currently $2,300.00 per year).

The Presbytery office is awaiting instructions regarding the transfer of 2016 operating expenses to the new administrator. As of October 31, 2016 the Presbytery will not be responsible for any administrative oversight or services in connection with PMIC.  It is our understanding that a letter will be crafted by People’s Ministry in Christ, co-signed by the Presbytery, detailing instructions on where donations will be received and by whom expenses will be paid.  This must be an entity with a current 501(c)(3).

PMIC is currently not gathering for worship on Sunday but still meets for Tuesday Bible study (led by Ann McCrossen) and Thursday Bible study (led by James Graham).  PMIC Mission Co-worker Tedd Pullano completed his service to PMIC on August 31, 2016

The Presbytery no longer has an administrative roll but will continue as a spiritual partner and champion of PMIC. We hope share further updates with you soon.

Respectfully Submitted,

Rev. Danny Peters, Mission and Advocacy Committee
Sue Tedesco, Mission and Advocacy Committee
Ronald Hansen, Board of Trustees
Susan Orr, Presbyter for Mission and Education
